At Grassgarth Kennels and Tarnside Cattery, we provide a safe, caring and comfortable place for your pets while you are away. Based in the beautiful Lyth Valley near Kendal, in the heart
of the Lake District, we are a family-run business with over 30 years of experience in boarding dogs, cats and small animals.

About Us

Set in 30 acres of private land in the Lake District National Park with direct access to
Whitbarrow Scar and woodland walks, Grassgarth offers peaceful surroundings, plenty of
fresh air, and spectacular views across the Lake District hills. Our aim is simple: to make
every pet feel secure, happy and well cared for, and to give owners peace of mind while they
are apart.


We are proud to offer high-quality boarding accommodation for dogs, cats and small animals,
with each pet receiving the care and attention they need as an individual. Our dogs enjoy
indoor centrally heated kennels with free access to their own outdoor runs, as well as regular
exercise and playtime. We cater for all diets, can administer prescribed medication, and you
are very welcome to bring your pet’s own food if preferred.

We know that every pet has their own personality, routine and needs, and we do our very best
to make them feel settled and at home during their stay. All of our staff are experienced in
caring for rescue dogs and cats too, so we understand that some pets need a little extra
